Having It All (Or having your cake and eating it, too)

Mumma's Whilst CakeIt was the well known, American media personality. Oprah Winfrey who stated, unequivocally that:

“You can have it all, but you can’t have it all at the same time.”

There are other along similar lines, like the comment from Madeleine Albright, former US Secretary of State of:

“I do think woman can have it all, just not at the same time.”

Or the one from Erin Callan, former CFO of Lehman:

“I now believe that I could have made it to a similar place with at least some better version of a personal life.

  1. You know what Amanda?… you’re right! In recent days I have felt like a failure, like I spread myself too thin.. but I realise I have been trying to be perfect at everything!! THAT just isn’t possible for anyone, I am being unrealistic and far too hard on myself.

When I reflect on what I am good at, and what I do like to do… I need to celebrate these and realise I am doing “it all” well by my own standards. I am running the online engraving business, I am running the furniture store, I am the main parent (responsible for making sure homework, lunches and morning readiness is mostly done) for 2 happy healthy well loved kids, I am a good supportive and loving wife (although I am sure my hubby would say the bedroom could be a little more active! lol), I do as much family and friend stuff as I can, and I even try and squeeze in a good night sleep most nights PLUS did you know I am a good decorator/home maker?! I think so anyway lol

Like you say; to some this may not be what they consider “having it all”, but you know what? It is to me, when I reflect on everything, there is nowhere and nothing else I’d rather be right now… and isn’t that what truly matters?!

Thanks for the well timed post… it’s something I started trying to get my head around this morning in my mission to be happier today, and from this day forward xx
