Just another day at the Office; Dolly Parton & Children's Literacy

A media release arrived a week or so ago, inviting me to a media conference relating to Dolly Parton and her philanthropic organisation, the Imagination Library designed to inspire parents to read more to their children to help reduce the current rates of illiteracy and give kids more opportunities for when they become responsible adults.

We all know the research around how kids learning to read is good for them and their brain development and bonding and stuff and things.

My main issue with the “read to your children every day”, aside from the potential for laying the guilt on, is that it seems to ignore the horribly high rates of adult literacy in Australia, and I am often left wondering “how can more parents be expected to read to their children every day/night when a significant portion of them
