Today … I get it

There was an image at the front of the room.

A photo of a woman, aged in her mid-40s. Gorgeous. Sparkling eyes. Big smile on her face. She is stunning, and radiating happiness.

You coudn’t help but smile when you looked at this picture either. It was one of those images where the cheerfulnes was congatious.

What was she thinking? when this photo was taken, you wonder. Whatever it was – or whatever the occasion – she was clearly having a fabulous time. And you smiled with her.

Except none of the 500 plus in the room with this photo were smiling, In fact, tears were running down many a cheek.

This photo was sitting atop a coffin. This woman’s coffin.

She had died days earlier.

We heard how she was

  1. Oh how sad, your post gave me goosebumps. I feel for her loved ones. And sadly, I do get it too. We have to get more awareness out there, which posts like yours are doing, but also make it easier for people to get help.

  2. Sadly, I get it too. Deepest sympathies to all who have lost something with the death of your friend. Thankyou for sharing.

  3. We spent much of or day at tafe discussing this stuff. They’re ARE people who “get it”it’s just a case of finding them.

  4. I get it.
And 20 years later I still feel the empty shadow where they should be.
It’s anything but selfish, but I do remember many many people saying it was, because those people are selfish and are looking at it through their own life motivators.
I don’t know what the answers are but I’m truly sorry for your loss.
